Day 1 Erg Chebbi Avian Expedition & Sunset Fennec Tracking

Target species include crowned and spotted sandgrouse, alongside the elusive pin-tailed sandgrouse. Keep your binoculars ready for the African desert warbler, greater hoopoe-lark, Egyptian nightjar, desert sparrow, bar-tailed lark, black wheatear, and desert wheatear. You may also spot the African houbara, cream-colored courser, streaked scrub warbler, fulvous babbler, trumpeter finch, Temminck’s lark, great grey shrike, and the striking pharaoh eagle-owl. Seasonal desert wetlands may also host graceful flocks of flamingos.
Dusk ATV Expedition: As golden hour approaches, board all-terrain quads for a two-hour venture deep into the dunes to track Fennec foxes—the Sahara's most charismatic and stealthy small carnivore. Conclude your evening with a traditional dinner and a quiet night under the desert stars.

Day 2 Dawn Mammal Tracking, Core Birding & Night Safari
Early Morning Fennec Safari: Head out into the cool dawn light approximately 30 minutes before sunrise on an ATV tracking session to observe Fennec foxes active in the crisp morning air.
Secondary Birding Focus: Following breakfast, return to prime habitats to check off any target species missed on day one, focusing heavily on photography, behavioral observation, and recording calls.
Nocturnal Desert Safari: After a sunset quad ride to catch Fennecs at dusk, embark on an intensive 3-to-4-hour night safari. Experience the dramatic shift in ecosystem dynamics as the Erg Chebbi sands come alive after dark. Spot tiny nocturnal mammals like Egyptian jerboas, Sundevall's jirds, hairy-footed gerbils, and northern elegant geckos. With exceptional fortune, you might cross paths with the rare and stealthy sand cat (Felis margarita). Return to your Merzouga lodge for rest.

Day 3 Specialized Herpetological Field Tour & Final Dune Sunset
